Today has been another successful day for Merlin. He is becoming very good at fetch and now drops the ball on his return for us to throw again. This time when exercising him in the hallway, we put his lead on him. Initially he was more interested him chewing it, then had to pick it up in his mouth when collecting the ball, but after about 10 minutes realised the lead was going to follow him anyway so he just seemed to ignore it. This was brilliant because when we were ready to go out, he wasn't bothered by his lead or his coat.
We visited our friend Anthony this afternoon for a coffee and a quick walk. Merlin had never been to another house and was very well behaved. He sniffed Anthony when we arrived and then let me lead him through the hallway on his lead to the living room, and our confident little pup even managed 2 small stairs by himself. While we chatted and had coffee, he fell asleep on our laps. He acted like the perfect puppy :-)
After coffee and a good catch up, we went for a walk around Boulters Lock and Merlin enjoyed all the new sights and smells and was mesmerised by the sound of the water from the fountain and weir. As it was so cold, Merlin was pleased to be wearing his fleecey coat, he certainly wasn't shivering as he'd done earlier this week. When we got back to the car, I let him have a drink and put a puppy training pad down and within a minute, Merlin had a wee, with perfect aim, right in the centre of the pad. We were chuffed because he clearly recognised he was to pee on the pad irrespective of where it is placed. He got lots of praise and a treat for this... He'd definitely earned it.
I'm not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow and missing out on Merlin's puppy adventures...
Still, I will have something to look forward to when I get home!
